TAR, Qinghai, Kham, Amdo, Sichuan, Yunnan PLUS

Kalsang covers most Tibetan areas that are not inside the TAR. If you're looking for adventure, look no further. He can introduce you to the WILDS of Tibetan lands and it's inspiring peoples. From his satchel of lifelong friendships, he can introduce you to monks, to Tibetan farmers, to nomads and to modern city folk. Want to work in an orphanage, he can arrange that. Want to survive the WILD Horse Festival, he can hold your hand every step of the way.

Kalsang Dondrup, 27, has been a guide for foreign travelers in Tibet since 2004. He has taken individual travelers thousands of miles, from as far away as Lijiang to the Russian border. He has all the connections and know how to help travelers find the least expensive Land Cruiser, the best price on hotels and food. Whether you need a guide for a few days or a few months, Kalsang can be of service in a myriad of way. Born in the Amdo county of Hualong, Qinghai Province, he has also lived and studied abroad so he understands and enjoys western traditions as well as his own. One of his favorite hobbies is studying interpersonal relationships which gives him an edge when it comes to dealing with all sorts of personalities. Gentle and kind, he can adapt to any situation or mix of personalities. He loves the outdoors, animals, children and all things natural. His enthusiasm for learning new cultures, studying foreign languages, and enjoying hiking and roughing it with the nomads gives him the perfect combination of interests for guide work. He really likes sharing Tibetan traditions, culture and religion, as well as learning from his guests. You can catch him at the local open-air dances on the park plaza during the summer, when he’s not up a mountain with friends or guests. Interested in film and computers, Kalsang has a wide variety of interests and talents. As our male 'Guide of the Year', Kalsang’s list of excellent recommendations is stacking up. Book him early to avoid disappointment. Unless he has a cancellation, he usually is booked pretty far in advance. Write him directly at TibetanWildYakAdventures@gmail.com

Chemi, the female 'Guide of the Year' with the effervescing smile! No trip to Lhasa is complete without Chemi to guide you around the Barkhor, take you inside the Jokhang, over to the Potala Palace and Norbulinga, the summer palace of the Dalai Lama. Sure, you can do those sites on your own, but you’ll never find the monasteries hidden away in the nicks and crannies of the old city alleys. She is famous for her tales, religious myths, humor and jokes. If you’re looking for a fantastic experience full of fun and excitement, Chemi can take you to the “safe” and “clean” restaurants, the best butter tea houses, the local markets, and down the hidden byways of this maze-like city. You’ll go home with more than fantastic memories, you’ll go home with stories beyond your wildest imagination, you'll go home with a new Tibetan friend! Lhasa Day Trips.

Chemi has been a private guide in Lhasa and surrounding areas since 2005. Born as a nomad in Chamdo, she’s attended university and speaks English, Tibetan and Mandarin Chinese. Known for her charisma and warm heart, she has helped hundreds of tourists navigate their way through this fascinating land at the top of the world. She enjoys reading, writing, studies, religion and culture. She can hike, dance and sing and maybe even leap from tall buildings with nothing more than a cape! Without a doubt, she is in demand. Book early! Not currently available. Please contact me. Thanks!
